How to price your used gaming PC

Work out what your PC is really worth from sold prices and its parts, then set a price that sells without leaving money on the table.

Price too high and your listing sits there. Price too low and you've given money away. Most sellers get it right with ten minutes of research. Here's how.

1. Ignore what you paid

Computers lose value quickly, especially when a new generation of graphics cards comes out. What you paid, and what the parts cost new today, aren't a good guide. What matters is what buyers are paying now for a computer like yours.

2. Look at sold prices, not asking prices

Asking prices tell you what sellers hope for. Sold prices tell you what buyers will pay. On eBay, search for your main parts and tick Sold items. Then search RigYard for similar specs to see what you're competing with.

3. Add up the parts

A whole PC usually sells for about the used value of its parts. A clean, tested, well presented machine can get a little more, because the buyer doesn't have to build it.

  1. Graphics card: usually the biggest single part of the value. Check sold prices for the exact model.
  2. Processor (CPU): the second biggest. Note the generation as well as the model.
  3. Everything else: add smaller amounts for the RAM, SSD, motherboard, power supply (more for well-known brands), case and cooler.

4. Adjust for the details

Adds valueReduces value
Remaining manufacturer warranty, receiptsScratches, dents, missing side panel
Original boxes and accessoriesUnknown-brand power supply
Genuine, activated WindowsFaults, even small ones
A monitor, keyboard or mouse includedCollection only from a remote area

RGB lighting, custom cables and premium cases are nice, but buyers rarely pay much extra for them.

5. Leave room to haggle

Most buyers expect to negotiate. Set your price about 5–10% above the lowest you'd accept. Buyers can make an offer from the chat, and you can accept, decline or reply with a counter-offer.

6. Review it after a week

If your listing is getting views but no messages after a week or so, the price is probably the reason. Lower it by 5–10% from My listings. Price drops are shown on your listing, which can bring people back.
